Okay, fine, I do. I'm stubborn enough that once I decide to do something, that's it. But it may not be the prettiest thing you've ever seen, come Day 23. Or, let's be honest, Day 16...9? Here's what I'll be adorning myself in over the next 30 days: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">5 pairs of shoes (brown boots, taupe booties, black wedge sandals, navy flats, metallic flats)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">3 pairs of pants (AAAH! is this even enough?!?! no, probably not. but I'll live and learn) (oh. heh heh. here's what they are: dark skinnies, light denim boyfriend jeans, and wide leg navy pinstripes pants)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">4 skirts (khaki, denim, and black pinstripe pencil skirts, and a reversible a-line skirt. hello 2-for-1. beautiful.)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 dress (white with black pinstripes) (what the what about all the pinstripes going on around here? crap...)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">10 shirts (navy blouse, red polka dot silky, royal blue ruffley, mustard cowl neck, blue floral, white tuxedo, black button-up, random red print, grey and pink striped henly, and lavendar pinstripe [aaughh!] button-up)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">2 jackets (black blazer, olive jacket)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">5 sweaters (green long-sleeve, grey cardigan, greenish cardigan, ivory cardigan, b&w striped sweater)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There you have it, folks. I found this red woven three-piece number amongst the dresses. Sad, lonely, and crying for someone--anyone--to take them home. Not typically drawn to orphaned things, I couldn't resist these guys. I think it was the pleats in the pants. And the $5-takes-all tag.<br /><br />In the future, I'll probably split the ensemble up a bit, but since it's the last day before 30 for 30, and since these aren't going to make the cut this go-round, I just had to pull a trifecta of homemade newsieness. We then combined the hair, and, squeezed together, I think it was the size of a golf ball. Or maybe a bowling ball. Yeah, probably bowling ball. Then everyone pitched in all their pennies and asked around to see who would eat it for $40 bucks. Fast-forward two hours: Me, on the couch, groaning in discomfort, and seriously contemplating the risk-to-benefit ratio of swallowing a cup of Drano. Worst $40 I ever earned. Live & learn.</div><br />#2: My second toe on my left foot, when bent and viewed from the side, looks exactly like an elephant's leg.<br /><br />#3: I remember being shocked to learn that cats didn't actually say the word "purr" when they purred. I was 14 years old when I learned this. A cat person I am not.<br /><br />#4: I get very scared of scary movies. I once hyperventilated (truly) during one. Lady in White, maybe? Can't remember. I cry and have nightmares and my imagination goes into weird realms if I watch scary stuff. So I now avoid all that by closing my eyes during the scary parts of movies and hiding my head in Pocket's shoulder. Yes, he still laughs at me but is good enough to pat my arm when I can "come out now." No, I still haven't seen the Bambi forest fire scene in-full. Judge me.<br /><br />#5: I have an enormous sweet tooth. Drat. You all know that already. Who cares. I typed it out, it counts.<br /><br />#6: I have two fake teeth implanted into my jaw because I'm missing those adult teeth. After my surgery, Pocket called me from work to see how I was faring. Apparently, he'd been talking to his coworker about how he "might need to leave work early because my wife's recovering from her implants." You can imagine how Coworker Joe interpreted that. It took several awkward conversational turns for them both to realize just exactly what "implants" the other was talking about. I don't even know if they shared a good laugh at the end. Chances are 50/50. They're engineers.<br /><br />#7: Sitting courtside at a basketball game, my face got pummeled by the ball zipping out of bounds. I was wearing my glasses at the time, and they got hashed. Mangled into my face. I think they replayed the scene over the jumbotron 183 times, no doubt in slow-mo, each time leaving me feeling awesomer and awesomer. I'll now take my chances in the nosebleeds.<br /><br />So. There you have it. More than you ever wanted to know about me. The rest of me is just an empty shell of pnut m&m wrappers, really. Which is strange to me, because these pants are totally preppy/workwear (wide cuff and everything), whereas the layered tees are exactly opposite. What would you call today's look, anyway? Would you call it: Preppy-lawyers'-kid-who-excels-in-math-and-classic-violin-recitals-but-secretly-plays-the-bass-in-a-garage-band-while-her-boxer-puppy-lays-on-some-carpet-remnants-in-the-corner? No way! That's exactly what I thought, too! What are the odds? I love the fatty gold boyfriend watch with all this, as well as the blue Converse--a little Unexpected & Maybe Awesome. Overall, despite lots going on, this ensemble's colors are chunky and muted. 'Cept the belt. It adds a bit of whimsy, a pop of color, and a bit of a "huh?" factor. Or just about themselves in general. Because, let's face it, the world contained within these four walls actually does revolve around them. Mmmm...kind of. Anyway, my son particularly loves the story about the funny, slash, disgusting thing that happened when he was a brandnew baby and Pocket was changing his diaper. I'd detail it here, but some of you don't have children yet, and I don't want to dissuade you from the decision. <br /><br />Don't you love it when someone does that? Like, dangles a tidbit of a story in front of you like a zhu-zhu pet in front of a puppy, then doesn't follow through with the juicy details? Well...I promise you, this isn't like that. The details of this story are indeed juicy. Quite literally. So. I'll just leave you with two words and let your imaginations run wild: "projectile" and "poo."<br /><br />Annnd...enough about you. Let's talk about me. Jumping-off point today was comfort and flexibility, because I was watching my 2- and 0-year-old nephews this morning. So. I just sort of piled stuff on until I ran out of time while my kids ate breakfast. Oooh, that's a great idea for a game show, no? Contestants have a closetful of clothes and 30 seconds to throw on a decent outfit before, say, three children in the next room (ages 2, 4, and 6, hypothetically speaking of course) start fingerpainting the furniture with yogurt, guzzling syrup from the bottle, and creating eternity pools of their cups by pouring their own milk. <br />  <br />And if that totally made-up make-believe absolutely fictional scenario made your forehead break out in tiny beads of sweat, I don't know what to say. 'Cept this: Don't come live at my house for the next 10 years. <br />  <br />Anyway. This is what I wore today. And if you're going to tell me that I'm too old to wear double braids, I'm going to fake geriatric-induced hearing loss and wear them anyway. Yep. <em>Fake</em>. I'm <strike>always</strike> <strike>usually</strike> on-rare-occasions-and-involving-bribes up for a challenge, so I told her I'd be happy to do it. But my brain is too tired to come up with three separate outfit ideas starring a white tee AND another outfit for today. So, even though you all get a sneak peek at one of the white tee outfits (lucky dogs), there are still two more secret and awesome looks coming up on her blog next week. So. This totally isn't cheating. I'm pretty sure. Hopefully.</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center">Also not cheating (right?) is the fact that I stole Pocket's basic white tee because I own none of my own. And, bonus!, his was fairly new and therefore didn't have the sweat stains that inevitably befall his t-shirts. [Editor's note: Not that my husband is sweaty or gross. He's absolutely not. He is athletic and active, though, so over the course of time and thousands of bball games, his tees tend to get...ummm...well-used.] </div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center">So, since I was using his tee anyway, I thought I'd strike up a theme here and pair it with some boyfriendish jeans. Check-check on the masculine components. Now I just needed to girlify a bit. Knot the tee, cuff the sleeves, add some enormous bright chunky jewelry, and don the infamous heeled booties of which my entire shoe collection are currently jealous. At first I was going to just pull back my hair to pretend I'm athletic, too ("pretend" being the optimum word), but with the tee's crew neck, that wasn't going to work. It needs some slight tailoring, but I haven't had time, so I decided to wear it with a chunky belt to hide the waistband until it's fixed. I'm afraid <a href="http://adayinlifetoo.blogspot.com/2011/01/striped-sweater-pencil-skirt-booties.html">Sunday's ensemble</a> got me into a total stripedy-stripe-stripe mood (PLUS it's breton stripes day), so I went with this little number. If you'll <a href="http://adayinlifetoo.blogspot.com/2010/12/its-beginning-to-look-lot-likewednesday.html">recall</a>, it's a tunic length (some might go so far as to say it's a "dress" length, but not I, my friends. Not I.), so I tucked it here, over a pale yellow button-up.</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center">The button-up was slightly problematic. It looked off when I wore the collar down, but so did it also look a little strange when I purposefully flipped it up. So I just opened up the back of the collar and let the front fall where it may. That's right. Living life on the edge. I'm famous for this kind of thing, you know. Like one time I went to bed without brushing my teeth.</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center">[Editor's note: That's true, but what she's failing to admit is the END of the story, which is that she got up a sleepless hour later to brush in the dark because she couldn't handle her fuzzy teeth. In this ensemble, they come across as kind of a neutral, really--just an extension of the blue denim skirt. A bright, glow-in-the-dark extension, of course, but still. They're pretty Unexpected & Maybe Awesome for me here.
